About Us
About SAFA
Somali Australian Friendship Association (SAFA) was established in 2009 by a group of young volunteers who are passionate about education and leadership in the Somali community. SAFA continues to create a platform for young people to express their voice while providing practical skills to young volunteers, such as governance and leadership roles within the wider community. One of our key goals is to encourage more students to take up tertiary education so that they can secure a better future for themselves. We also urge students to seek knowledge tirelessly, to think globally and to act locally for the betterment of mankind. So many in the Somali community have overcome many great challenges, personal tragedy, displacement, inter-generational issues, family disenfranchisement and hardship. In documenting and celebrating the success achieved by Somali students in Victoria, we provide inspiration to others who are yet to complete their studies. Education is simply the soul of a society as it passes from one generation to another. The ticket to better employment opportunities, integration and prosperity is in our hands.
